No way. Armrest is perfect height. Cupholder doesn't suck at all. When i first got it, i thought it might slide out from teh weight of the drink, but the cupholder sits firmly in place wherever you slide it.

      Maybe we got different setups?

I always thought about using an old CD ROM drive to make a motorized cupholder.

Well if you wanna give up your radio, a cupholder from a Ford Taurus will fit into the DIN slot... :)

The e36 center console/cupholder can be adapted to work.

I was thinking of that one and the mid 80s to 90s toyota half DIN cup holders.

Well that makes me feel better.. I go old school too! I thought I was the only one who knew what that thing was. It seems like every place I go looking for one of those things, the snot-nosed kid behind the counter has no idea as to what I am talking about. Once day I actually found the clipon cup holder in one of those quicky mart type of places. The girl behind the counter was astonished.. she was like, "What's this?"

Actually I just deleted my stereo deck (iPod running straight to the amp in the trunk) and would be cool to mount a pop out cup holder that will fit in my stereo hole. If anyone runs into something like that let me know.

The thing in my computer is a Cdrom drive? I always pressed the little button and got a cupholder.

this is as far as i got on a little project i tried to do. Its a retractable from a 99 s4 i belive. They are very cool but it never would work perfect with an e30. you have to have to much angle on the whole thing and the cd player gets in the way and gettign enough support is tricky. I even thought about building a custon HAVC panel to include a cd 53 out of a e46 but that all is just to silly.
