"save your money. "Invest in yourself" etc is some of the worst advice in this thread.

How is having money when you're old and dead better than enjoying your life? No point surviving until you're 100 if you never actually live.

I have heard of people regretting dumping money into cars, education, relationships etc. but never hookers & blow.

once you get away from consumerist living (more of a destructive treadmill where you just acquire more junk, really)...that's when the REAL fun starts.

sadly, some will never know this feeling.

...guess that's what separates the leaders from the followers

          EDIT

I guess what I mean to say is when you invest some money into hookers, blow etc., you are actually investing in yourself.
When you young is the best time. So get off R3V and get out there!

there is A LOT to be said for not living pay check to pay check. In the real world 3k does not go very far, but its a good start

Not to mention being able to maintain your standard of living with out having to go to a job anymore is kinda important. You dont want to have to live on 37 dollars a week for food for the last 20 years of your life. It would be like being a broke baggy pants all over again with out mommy and daddy to supplement your daily needs

That car looks like a basket case. Holy ****. No offense intended, but that thing doesn't look fit for track use, or even remotely well sorted enough to entertain putting a turbo or other frivolous mods on it.

Your shocks are leaking, it has a good amount of rust, and from the looks of that stain, you're pissing oil out at a pretty alarming rate. Forget the turbo or an interior. Get that car cleaned up, get the rust fixed, get the oil leaks taken care of, get some properly functioning shocks on it, get some tires condicive to driving in spring/summer temps (you'll chew those snows up if that's all you have), fix the exhaust hangers or whatever is wrong that required cardboard to be stuffed into the valance (take that out BTW, before you set your car on fire).

After that stuff, take care of the rest of the mechanical stuff it needs. You'll be at $3K in no time.

Of course. I hope I didn't come off condescending.

Do you have other tires for the car?

I see at least one of those shocks pissing hydraulic fluid out. The suspension is probably toasted. You may consider doing that and upgrading from stock with what you choose to replace.

I see rust in the wheel well, and you say it's in the batter tray. I can pretty much guarantee you'll find it all over the car. Get those rusty areas ground down to clean metal and coated over before it gets worse.

I see areas where the paint is scraped off. If it's down past primer, get some touch up over that and buff down before it starts to rust and bubble. (I'm on an iPhone, so it's tough to see what's going on in these pictures).

Get the oil leak(s) taken care of. It's probably coating your hoses and eating away at the rubber. It can get into electrical connectors and sensors and gum all that stuff up.

Get that paint cleaned up and get some wax on it before it bakes and fails from neglect. Clean, clay bar, polish carefully (if desired. It will look way better), and get some wax on it. Get yourself something with nice longevity like Collonite 845 insulator wax or Klasse AIO. I'd get the Collonite.

How are the belts, plugs, filters, fluids, and other consumables (brake pads, wipers, etc)?

I've always said the truth can't hurt, only improve. No worries.

No, I originally had a deal with a guy to buy his 15" basketweaves but he decided he liked them too much on his Escort. :barf: I've heard good things about Azenis?

How are the belts, plugs, filters, fluids, and other consumables (brake pads, wipers, etc)?
Proud to say brand new breaks were the first thing I did. Belts seem fine(the ones that are on, PO took p/s and a.c. off) Fluids are topped off, last time I checked, but some are obviously coming out.

As far as oil goes, I promise it isn't as bad as it looks. it's a rented space and I've only been in there 3 months. the darkest spot is mine. (still bad)

and turbo and interior just sounded nice phonetically to me haha though the first thing I did want to do is fix my chair

I understand what you're saying and agree with it to an extent but at the same time, there is no point living if you're not enjoying your life doing things that you want to do. For some people, believe it or not, that is spending money on E30's and driving them.

Savings should already be a regular thing out of the weekly/fortnightly cheque. Having a windfall of cash like the OP is the perfect opportunity to invest in personal enjoyment.
