I never found the 944 to be pleasing to the eyes, I say keep your vert and enjoy it.

I did a bunch of work on a friends.

We had a lift, did suspension, clutch, exhaust, big custom turbo specifically for the application.

It sucked, I'll never own one unless it is bone stock. No way do I want to work on it every time it breaks, which will be significantly more frequent if its modded.

Keep a service manual on hand. I have been turning wrenches my whole life but this car has very specific things that will have you breaking shit if you don't know to look for it.

Example, if you replace the flywheel. Pull the sensors on the bell housing and re-gap with the key on the flywheel directly under the sensor. Otherwise you sear off the key on the flywheel.

If you decide you don't want power steering, keep the pulley in place. Otherwise there isn't enough tension to run the oil pump

Also you need deep pockets for parts. Everything is expensive.

Back when I lived in Wa I used to have late night high speed runs against a guy that had a 951 and was pretty well known in the 944/951 community up there. That car was always having some sort of issue. I personally like them but would not want to own one.

I had a '89 944 Turbo for several years that I used to drive DEs until some idiot (me) crashed it trying to keep up with some GT3 cars at Road America. It was a great car and mine was dead stock. The '89 and late '88 cars have slightly more power and LSD standard. The '87 and later cars have a different wheel offset and are have more suspension upgrade choices. These cars can be relatively inexpensive to buy but make sure you have a good reserve fund for deferred maintenance by previous owners. If you are on a budget and don't do your own work, forget it. I'm building a 968 now into a someday club racer and I am doing all my own suspension work - converting to coil overs and a partial cage with full safety interior seats and harnesses. PM me if you want any info.

I always was looking for a 944 turbo but never found one for sale and besides those are almost extinguished from this land. But I found the understeer version for quite a lot more money. I like more my E30 M3 driving position and leg room over my 911 but they are just totally diferent cars.

How about the 968 I think it is? The sucesor of the 944

Anyone sold their beloved e30 and regretted it?
              Haha, good one

From what I can tell they aren't that bad, I've still considered one, but do your research, if you don't get a good one it can be very expensive.

My dad had a turbo and turbo S when they first came out. Kept them until the warranties expired and moved up to a 964 turbo.

I still love the way they handle..but they can be finicky and expensive to repair. I'd rather have a 928

Ever do a moderately difficult repair on your e30 and think "Damn, Hans and Dieter did a nice job designing this to be wrenched on"? The 944 is the polar opposite. It will make you want to hunt down the designers and smash their kneecaps.

Call your local BMW independent shop and ask for a price on a timing belt and water pump change. Then do the same with a Porsche shop on the 944 Turbo. That will give you an indication of the differences in parts and work time involved.

                    Oy yoiyoi!

I hear ya'll on the maintenance part of things, yet what I have the oportunity on picking us something where all the bases have been covered.
Clutch, timing, cooling, bbk, rollers, everything has been covered. This is literally a turnkey toy, not a "$5k 944" that needs 10k of work.

It's for sale for about 12k fully documented.

If he accepts my offers, and i get what I want for my e30 I'll likely pull the triger. It's time for a change.

If he doesn't take my offer, and I don't sell the e30, well I still have an awesome cAr:)

I've met people who went Porsche from E30. They didn't seem like psychopaths or bankrupts to me.
Nice decision to have to make, good luck.

Guess this means means your M20B25 might not be for sale. :(

Get the Porsche. I've driven my friends around a track and they are an absolute blast, but I cant speak on replacing parts.

I will say, 944's make the sexiest sound ever when you close the doors. Its just a solid, beautiful "chunk".

Drove/Wrenched on buddies about 15 years ago for about a year. Thought they were standard VAG stuff. Stick everything in as tightly as possible.

Car was very fun with adjustable waste gate, turn up boost have fun blasting the back roads and auto-x with it. Turn it down it was ok on city streets but got better gas mileage of course. Would I pay 12K for one no, rather save a few more bucks and get a true nightmare....a 911.
