Anyone gone from e30 to Porsche turbo?

Have opportunity to pickup a fully built 944 turbo sleeper. Turnkey, reliable and retarded fast.
    Needs a little paint work.

Anyone sold their beloved e30 and regretted it?

I think parts are harder to come by if you get a 944. something to think about.

I have. Hopefully another one will be in the garage someday.

I don't like them tbh. Always thought they were kinda meh looking. Would rather have a 914.

I will own a 944 either turbo or LS swapped car someday. Always loved them but never owned one yet.

I've heard the steering balance on them is absolutely perfect...better than an e30 or miata as a matter of fact with obviously more power.

I had one... owned it for 4 years. It was in immaculate condition, full binder of maintenance records, only 58K miles - this was in 2005 (it was an 86). By the time I got rid of it in 2009, I spent almost as much money in maintenance as I bought it for (over $10K).

Fun car. Reliable? No... handling - good for the time and matched many newer cars, but there's definitely better out there for a reasonable price that's more reliable. I was cross-shopping E30 M3s at the time... They were both in my price range of $10-$14K at the time. I got the 951 for $13k - I sold it 4 years later for the same price. I should have gotten the E30 M3 - I'd have probably felt more comfortable driving it on a more regular basis. The Porsche just felt like too much flash and so on for a kid coming out of college - paid for it with winnings from a crazy drunken vegas craps table night.

It was great owning it, but also a learning lesson in finances and about cars in general. I knew very little about cars and could hardly do an oil change at the time - i've made sure to fix and address that since then...

                Anyway, rambling...

TL; DR - if you like your E30 and think it's reliable and cheap to maintain, keep it that way. my experience with the 951 was not a good one. it was a learning experience...

Thanks for the feedback so far fellas.

To clarify, my e30 is a Sunday cruiser.
Doesn't see snow, or rain for that matter. Driven maybe a couple times a week in the summer only.

I'm mechanically inclined, and my "toy" car can spend weeks/months at a time out of commission in my garage if need be.

Just so attached to e30 it's unreal. I've owned many nice cars int lifetime, even nicer than my e30(srt8 magnum) but the e30 is the one I've really fallen for. So much personality I guess I could say

Well I think you've answered your question. I've gotten the chance to drive many nice cars and virtually all of them were faster than the e30, but like you said, something about the tried and true shoebox e30 that hits home. I've only driven one 944, while it may sound silly, I didn't care for the seating position and the taller shifter console. I'm on the taller side (6 ft.) and I would say the 944 seating position reminds me of a Corvette. That being said, I have plenty of room in the e30 sit comfortably. Turbo cars sure are fun though....no arguing that!

Based on what you just said, I wouldn't sell the e30. If anything detail the e30 and get it something nice

I have no experience with a 944 or 951 so I can't say anything to that.

My buddy just did a clutch on one this weekend. He said he has never sworn at a car as much as he did that weekend. He also owns an e30 M3 and is a mechanic, excuse me, technician. Not sure if that helps, I know if he didn't get the 944 for free, he probably wouldn't go out and buy one.

Probably because of the rear transmission arrangement... Very unlike a "regular" configuration. I had to change the clutch throwout bearing on my truck with c5 Corvette drivetrain... Major pain to pull the cab and trans, along with half the rear end to get the halfshafts out...

Yes. I think his biggest hang up was something to do with a sensor and a sleeve that are fairly buried on the top of the bell housing.

                              Your truck is awesome.
