If your picking up the engine I think you are I say do it regardless of cost. Those dont come along to easily.

            WTF? ^

            ----------------------------------

Generally trucking companies will charge $$$$ extra to deliver something like this to a residence, or to a business without a loading dock. They'll charge $$$ extra as well if you tell them you will need it delivered with the use of a lift gate (the lift platform that raises and lowers on the back of a truck).

In general, the cheapest is dock to dock- i.e., the shipper drops it off at the trucking company terminal near them, and they specify "hold at destination terminal for consignee (recipient) pickup".

Call 3 or 4 different trucking companies and you'll likely get a HUGE range of prices for the same shipment. Almost all of them will give some sort of discount off of their regular rates if you ask- ask for first time shipper discount or something like that. $300 sounds cheap for shipping an engine coast to coast.

so $300 is an optimistic price?

Mine was $400 for an engine and tranny to be delivered to a garage without a loading bay. That is from Florida to Kansas, in a crate.
                Im now E30less.

I think mine was 350 from a dropoff point, to a residence. Much cheaper if its drop-off to drop-off.

                      ABF quoted me around $350

but that is if the seller agrees to drop it off at their office, and i pick it up from their office..

would it cost a lot more if they picked it up from his house (liftgate)??

Let me whip out my crystal balls and rub them..............hmmmmm..........

                        :P

                        Why not ask ABF?

I'll bet it's at least $50, probably more like $100 extra for liftgate pickup at his house- but my guess is just that......a guess.

Why not try Forward Air? They were very competitive for stuff that I have shipped cross-country.
