Shifting that low is hard on the bearings. You may also see improved economy with a higher shift point.

Yea you're shifting to soon. That's a lot of stress
When cold I shift at 2500. When warm usually aroun 4-4500. Unless I'm making her scream

I usually shift around 3000. Once I start breaking 4 I'm boosting hard and if that happens... well redline it is.

          Nice?
I always warm up the engine first.

Honestly I don't know why you'd even shift that low to begin with. Completely takes the fun out of driving. I generally shift at 3-4k after it's warmed up, and occasionally to 5k+.

I usually shifted between 2500 and 3000 in the eta.
In the E34 I put it in drive at idle :(

Obviously none of us own big block chevys. ;)

Ha, My POS M42 I JUST put in my car lasted a total of 6 pulls to 7,200 RPM before it snapped a timing chain sprocket.

running around 2500 to 3500 and shifting at 4 in a M50, but ran the m20 a little easier.

On a different note any one know when this magical vanos turns on? i heard you can preserve its life if you shift before it kicks in on the highway.

4500-5000ish. Also, what idiot told you that?

The M50 VANOS never fails, anyway. All it ever needs is new seals, and if you can't cope with doing a Beisan seal kit, you should sell the car now and buy a Hyundai.

trust me changing seals isnt an issue. the 24v world is new to me so i tend to be a bit gullible, or ignorant. it sounded a bit odd and the guy was a kook that drove a stock 5 series so thats why i figured id ask here.
