    I'm getting a new GTI...still in the e30 scene!

So after doing a lot of talking with my uncle (VW marketing), and checking out the specs on the new GTI, I've decided to get a lease on a white one with a 6-speed and the anthracite cloth interior.

At first, I figured I'd have to sell the e34 and e30 to afford the down payment and monthly costs, but once I mentioned the idea to my parents, they decided that if I sold the e34, they would pay for half of the down payment and monthly charge! Score! I can't believe they're being so generous, it's awesome, to say the least.

I'm going to the dealership on Monday to take a test drive and work out numbers (assuming I like the car), and then it'll be my DD so I can put away the e30 as a weekend car (or something stupid like that).

I know the car is FWD, but at least there will be no chance of oversteering and running over a curb. It'll be more convenient that the RWD e30, IMHO. I was originally looking at getting an R32, but I'm sick of having a pocket-rocket car, and the GTI should provide enough power while still being a comfortable car for around the city.

Anyways, I'm off to bed. Anyone want the e34?

Oh, and my uncle gets me a 10% discount, so that's a nice help for the wallet.

90% good decision... but pony up for DSG. It's one of the few affordable cars with it, don't miss out. I normally hate FWD but have considered a GTI in the future. Wouldn't buy one new of course, thanks for taking the depreciation hit for the next owner.

I would go mad without a manual transmission.

It's better. Faster than you could ever shift. If you ever drive in traffic you'll appreciate the auto capabilities.

Meh, 6-speeds keep me entertained. I mean, having FWD is hurting the driving experience enough, might as well get something fun, right?

3200lb FWD hatches are already beyond "too numb." Might as well maximize the performance.

PS: You'd better not waste your money on leather. The base level cloth interior is fucking sick.

Yeah, that plaid cloth is insanely awesome. I'll try to test both transmissions at the dealership, I suppose.

I've been looking at the GTI as well, but I will wait until a good used or CPO one comes along. It's true that the DSG is much faster than the manual, and they are both 6-speeds. Plus the paddle shifter is an added plus. And yes, I would stick with the cloth as well.

BTW, check out www.myfastgti.com. It's a pretty cool independent site and board.

EDIT: BTW, there are rumors of an R32 MkV in development.

permit, that's what I've read you should do. I'm all about getting a manual, but I've read that you need to try this system out before you pass any judgements. The cloth interior is the most amazing thing to be produced by mankind. I'm envious you bastard, enjoy it.
The BMW 318 is back. With a vengeance.

Sounds sweet your parents are goign to help foot the bill, but havent you been trying to sell the e34 for like 6 months now? The new GTI is one of the few new cars I really like, but youd be better off getting a slightly used r32 or something of the like. Buying a new car is like throwing your money away.
