IX is hurting. I'm sad. Please give me your opinions.

Long story short. I've owned my 88 six for the past 11 years. Daily driver. I have maintained, repaired or replaced everything it needed through the years. Now has 255,000 mi. The New England winters have taken its toll and besides the rust spots I see, the passenger side rear spring is an inch into the upper support, floors have a few rust through spots. Hole in jack well, hole under washer resivor, license plate lights etc. No time to do body work. Mechanically perfect. Drive it till it rusts away or sell it now to someone that can save it. I'm torn because I absolutely love this car. John T in Ct.

Drive it till you can find time to fix it! Once you get rid of her you will only want another. From those two pictures it looks like you've taken great care of her too. What if the next guy gives up half way and she just gets scrapped?!

drive it, but keep a look out for a replacement shell to swap everything over too. If theres rust on the surface you'll only find more the deeper you dig.

I'd say start parking it in the winters and also start saving up to have someone fix it, if you can.

How bad is the rust? Pics would be best.

I wouldn't sell it. Start cutting out the rot and patching it up when you have time. Or save up some money and get a cheap 2nd car to drive while this one's getting fixed.

Thanks for the replies everyone. Going to get it on a lift and give it a closer look. There is a shop that specializes in E30's not far from here. I will have them give me some thoughts. John

You've had that car too long to abandon ship now. Fix the structural rust issues and then the cosmetic when you have time.

^^^^^^^. That's A+ advise right there. You may not be able to repair it right now but at least it won't be twice as bad when you can get to it.
