    Clutch noise, keep driving?

    So recently i hear a winy noise when i press the clutch in.
    Just like in this video:


    Sounds like my throwout bearing is toast and it doesn't look like a quick fix.

    Question is, can i keep driving the car for a couple more days before i sustain worse damage? Or should i get a rental car for DD purposes while my other is getting finished at a shop?

    Lol i recommend fixing that asap. let mine alone for a week and the bearing exploded in my tranny. and damaged the shaft, and left impressions in the housing of the bearings.

      There are various stages of failed bearings, that sound is one of impending doom. It is possible to drive an E30 without the clutch if you bypass the clutch switch. It's not fun but will get you home in a pinch.

        Okay...good to know. Did you have to take the engine and trainy out?

          Damn if you do it i recommend you don't after this, don't hold the clutch down at stops, throw it in neutral. You might want to do a whole clutch job so you don't have to come back to it in the next couple thousand miles but depends how much of the disk's friction material is really left.

            You don't need to pull the engine. Just drop the transmission.

            Also, no. I wouldn't drive on one that sounds that bad. That's baaaaadddddd. A throwout bearing disintegration can cause all kinds of carnage.. In My s12 it destroyed the cluth pressure plate, friction disk, transmission bell housing (Punched a hole), transmission input shaft snapped, which made the pilot bearing sieze, and it also made one awesome end to a track day.

            Somehow the clutch fork was A-ok though.

            Not recommended for a DD. Start taking the TriMet until you have it, or the other car fixed.

              you shouldn't sit there with the clutch pushed in anyway.
