These threads always make me smile.
I've done 10 E30s in the last 3 years and made money on every one. Sometimes a hundred dollars, sometimes considerably more than that. All profits have gone into my daily 89 iS, which, at around 7 grand, is starting to go past the point now of breaking even if I sell it.

For me there is a joy in resuscitating a sad little broken down E30 and sending it back down the road with a few more years to be enjoyed. I also love having a hobby that pays. So much different than racing.

But yes, I sold my M50 swap because there were things about it I wasn't happy with. Nothing that I had to hide from the buyer, just stuff I will do differently next time. But that was the point of the exercise. To do one and and find that out first hand.

I sold my X5 for a newer car. Stupid move considering I didn't owe any money on it, but getting it to run after sitting for 2 years become more of a hassle. Any time I drove, that check engine light would pop on for one thing after another every few weeks. Scan it, replace what it needed and it was okay for a while. That was on repeat until I got sick of it. Previous owner treated it like trash and one day I had enough and traded it in for a '13 Jetta TDI when I worked for an Audi/VW dealer.

I regret selling it but Danny's post is pretty spot on: people get bored with cars. It's not the actual accomplishment that gets me, it's the path to it that is rewarding. All the hard work, learning, and countless hours are worth it, don't get me wrong, but with a mind like mine...I want to do something else productive. Conquer and move on, I guess.

So if i invested 2.5k into a solid paint job then I would be able to increase the value of my cirrus to break even with costs?

Even more puzzling is when they complete a build to show standards, hang on to it for a while then part it out. Dafuq is that all about? :loco:

Thrill of the "build" and people end up hating the car afterwards when they are broke, single and living in the trailer park to pay for said build.

                    Really.

I think, in short, getting is better than having. Some guys are never happy with what they have and always want something new.
