    Inside my airbox...

I found a piece that attaches to my afm inside my airbox that is basically a long horn looking piece that goes almost all the way to the wall of the airbox. I was wondering why this was there? Does it have some sort of venturi effect or something to increase air velocity? I removed it to see if I'd notice a difference and I really didn't. Anyone have any insight?

It controls airflow through the AFM. It wont make you faster by removing it.

Also, if you scroll down you might find there are techincal forums.

Oops, I'll use the tech forum next time.

Is there any detriment to removing it or should I put it back on?

Put it back in. It's there for a reason.

If I recall correctly, that tube is called a "velocity stack". It is there to minimize the turbulence of the air going to the AFM.
You should put it back in.

I have always taken it out on all my cars. I was told by a german that it was put in there to quiet down the intake.- plus its extra weight on the front of my M20 car!
