My mom is looking to get one, and after a little research, I've seen absolutely horrible things about the Northstar Engine. Anyone have any personal experience with one?

Bad motors and bad cars. There is nothing like fwd tq/ steer in a heavy pos handling car. The value of those cars do nothing but drop. Let me guess that the car sells for around 7k or so for a freaking 98? Tell your mom to look elsewhere.

that's funny - when the northstar came out it got good reviews. I guess time tells all.
I do believe (and correct me if I am wrong) that that is the motor that can go into "limp home" mode if it looses it's coolant system. It runs one bank of cylinders, and just pumps gas with no spark into the other in an effort to cool it'self. The switches to keep to the other bank to cool. Not even sure if a half gallon of gas and some air would cool a hot engine - but it sounded kind "forward thinking"...
A for effort...
And PS - when was the last time you ever heard anything good about an american tranny?
