Car is worth what someone will pay, and there are a few guys out there who would pay for this. More than a few, I expect, but, good luck finding them. I don't think this is viable as a business all on its own though. Awesome idea/thought however. A literally brand new perfect everything e30 would be way way cooler than any $25k current new car that I can think of.

If you could get an effective marketing strategy going, then yes, it could reach those with enough money to afford this. Cabriolet's cost him $25k, but that was with a lot of diy involved. Real cost would probably be close to $30k, but you'd also be able to get economies of scale.
I've thought about it myself many times. I think it'll be a viable idea in perhaps 5-10 years, when their value and appeal rises in relation to diminished supply and effective marketing. Definitely would need a few upgrades though, like stereo, rust protection, wheels and lighting.

IT'S MORE AMAZING THAN YOU CAN IMAGINE

I will never ever ever do it again.

          2600 man hours
          ~$28,000

90%+ of my car is new.
However, much of the e30 is NLA. meaning things like door seals, window seals, etc cant be bought. I was inspired by xworks. His is the nicest resorted e30 period.

You and me both. Not even close to being done with mine an hundreds of man hours in it almost 9k and it doesn't even have paint, interior or a running motor. The life of speed an beauty is an expensive one at that.

Cool idea, but not with the E30. The E30 was a mass produced vehicle that sold millions of units, so what's to stop someone with all that money from buying a used shell and restoring it themselves? Doing kit supercar builds would be more profitable in my opinion.

I think their is a reason why bmw created all those factory's and safety tests, not only will it be hard to find the parts but I mean it will be tough to make it a gaurentee as well!

I do love the idea, though I would do one myself even if I could buy one out of a catalogue I would rather build it myself. Though I do feel th biggest hurtle would be locating parts.

                    Get investors.

                    Buy the molds.

Hire Czechs and Slavs to work in the factory.

                    ????????

                    Profit.

This. e30s are sweet cars but they arent hard to find like a 1 of 10 Ferrari model. The cost of completely restoring an e30 would be insanely expensive compared to the actual demand.
Iv thought of doing something like this as well, but more along the lines of a Singer Porsche (http://singervehicledesign.com/) where you take a decent example of the car, and tastefully upgrade and modify the car to bring it closer to modern cars and give it some more style and class.
The fact is that there are almost no e30 lovers with the capitol or will to throw down on a car like that. Its just not the right crowd.

I'm with Cab on this one. I've done one really nice e30, and I'm in the middle of three 2002s. My base model 1600 from 1971 has already commanded $19.5k in the last 5 months, and it's not even an entirely special or rare car.

The point is, to restore a car correctly, and I mean correctly, multiply whatever you think your budget is by about 3.

Good luck OP, I have dreams too, but they don't really involve cars. There are easier ways to make money.

For example, exporting Walnuts from eastern Europe into Dubai, Saudi Arabia, and even China. High quality (this means combed through and processed in a factory) walnuts command $350k +/-5% per 40' Shipping container. Profit on these (per container) are significantly over 30%. You do the math.

I don't even know why I'm telling you this.
