    Help! I need some advising!

    Hello! I'm new here but I've a question I'd really appreciate some help with.
    I've come across a Mechanic selling an all but rebuilt 1986 325e 4 door manual. It has a turbo, intercooler, new chip, and the works in the engine. The control arm bushings are newly replaced, there's very little rust and nothing structural, the car shifts great, new belt and water pump, etc. Car was lowered an inch or so too.
    The shifter is a bit wobbly because one of the bushings is bad but that really seems to be the only issue despite the fact that the car has close to 200k on it and the clutch and trans are original. The exhaust dumps right out under the car though, new pipes up to that point but nothing bringing it to the back and no muffler. Also the dash is cracked in a few places, the driver seat has a small tear, and the inside is generally acceptable other than that, but not stellar. This guy has put a lot of work into this thing obviously and it runs real great with plenty of boost and great handling. He's asking 3,250 for it and, while I believe I can get him down considerably, Everyone is telling me this car is a bad bet. I've gone on every e30 forum I could find and tried to compile the common issues I and this car either has new parts or no signs of deterioration corresponding to every entry on that list. Even so I'm just not confident as I'm not so knowledgeable to say the least, and I just don't know what this car is worth if anything. I'm more than willing to work on it, but if its going to be a money pit I can't support that. Thank you so much for your help. So, what do you think?

    This isnt the car for you. You sound enthusiastic but maybe a bit inexperienced with a wrench??? A home built turbo car is not a good car to start out on . I dont care who built it

      What would you recommend then? I've got a bit of experience but I've got mechanics in the family and It'd make some quality time with my father.

        Just get a stock M20 car to learn on. Ive got a twin cam turbo car but its not my only car. In my experience a turbo car should be a 2nd car. At least if youre going to drive it the way it was meant to be driven. Stuff is going to break

          Yup, i'd say start out with a car with the stock M20. You'll have plenty of stuff to work on, and to start off, parts will be easy to find.
          The added bonus with a "stock" car is that you'll have an easy time figuring out what parts you need since it won't have the hodgepodge of parts from various models and generations that many modded cars will have! (saves you the trouble of finding out EXACTLY what went in to the P.o's build, and trying to find exactly what needs to go in to make the car run when something goes bad).

          As well, an M20 can accept lots of little upgrades down the road too!
