Im planning on a '00 YZR600R for my first. And as said i probably will want to swap it soon after i get it BUT i wont because my car comes first and the bike would be just to get to work and school cheaper.

P.S. Do you need a permit to take the MSF/BRC course in california, and roughly, how much do they cost?

i think you need a permit everywhere. my permit was like 8 bucks. msf course was 350 here, but groups of 7 or more get it for 250, which is what I did. price varies throughout the country i think, daN took it in texas and i think he said it was cheaper

i have my license... got it through the rider course in MA.... of course i've had it for like 2 years & have never had a bike...

if i got a 600CC sportbike i'd go for the Ninja ZX-6r. i've ridden a few bikes including an r6 & similar bikes... and i'd say the zx-6r is my favorite of the bunch... nice & large, stable, yet quick & light. i like the feel of the transmission better than the r6 as well.

Greg... how much you lookin to get for that Duc? (probably way more than i can afford, but i thought id ask 8) )

used to have 4 bikes, when my son was born I downsized to 'only' 2

            here is my Ducati 748

and here is my Kawasaki zx-7R

I only ride race tracks now (track days), used to ride a lot on the streets, but no more

              BUMP

3 years later, just curious who still rides/now rides

i've had 2 r6's and my new 636 since then.

here's my most recent r6 (2001, bought it last fall and sold it maybe 3 months ago) receiving new forks, rearsets, clip ons, damper, etc.

              here it is fixed;

and here is my new project; 2006 kawi ninja 636. totalled at 950 miles. Just needed rearsets, shift rod, plastics, tank, ram air tube, stay, and cluster. got it rideable, just need some track plastic and the cluster. no recent pics though. Will be painted black.

I did a couple seasons of roadracing some years ago. I have sort of fallen out of motorcycling due to house remodel, grad school etc.,but I have a '98 ZX6R with a muzzy motor (race bike), '69 Kawasaki H1, '74 CB400f ('60's GP replica project), '69 HD SS350 (Aeromacci basketcase), '72 honda CL350 and CL450 baskets. I hope to get the Kawasaki street worthy for this summer.

How much do totaled bikes like that go for? I'd like to pick one up for the track if they are cheap enough...

Here's my "sporty" bike. I dont know if It counts. Custom cafe style yamaha..

I learned and still ride my 02' CBR 600 f4. Very smooth and almost too fast for me at only 600cc's.

yeah, 600s are plenty fast for me. and i def notice a boost in power with the 636 now.

you can get r6's for ~3k-3500. If you only want it for the track, though, you can get them for like 2k with bill-of-sale only, fully track prepped. check wera.com, and the various wrecked bike websites, like wreckedbikes.net, cyclerecyclers, dionservice.com or something, etc

Cool thread. More pictures. Been thinking about a bike, figured a turbo E30 would be safer for the time being.
