The blue bit? That's the hazard triangle.

I think he means the piece under the triangle. It appears to be a storage thing for over the jack rather than over the battery. I've never seen it before, are you sure that's a picture of an E30?sigpicComment

If I recall correctly it's the trunk of the alpina m3 but I could be wrong.Float like a cadillac sting like a Bimmer!:)

It could be made from 3/4" mdf and covered with trunk carpet.Originally posted by Andy.BWhenever I am about to make a particularly questionable decision regarding a worryingly cheap diy solution, I just ask myself, "What would Ether-D do?"Comment

That trunk appears to have an extended range tank in it behind the fabric. OP where did the picture come from?
Trunk Organizer, but I have the standard plastic one for the right side.Last edited by M-technik-3; 09-08-2014, 10:30 AM.Comment

Looks like it could be a South Africa car or European car...I have that option (don't know the name sorry!) in my UK E30, BUT it's on the right hand side above the battery.
The long range fuel tank is pretty rare but a lot of SA E30's had it.JUNGL3

That's not an M3 specific part. M3 has a threaded hold down for that side. After looking at the link it appears it may have been for the Hartge car in the photobucket account that the OP saw at a show?
Stand corrected if I look close enough I can see the small cut out where the hold down goes. Maybe someone had it custom flocked?Comment
