tiny drill bit. you affectively try to catch the missing section with the bit (by hand) and then pull it out

What position is the key in? If it is in the first then you should be able to pop the whole lock out. Otherwise, try to pry it out using two small, but strong pins or allen wrench.

I don't see either method going over well, especially if it's in there pretty deep.

When I was 16 I worked for a locksmith as a summer job. I remember seeing him use these key extractors to get it out. Basically he stuck em in there, twisted each handle a few times and out the key came. Here's somewhere you can get em from

Either that or you can call a locksmith and they'll remove the key for you. Probably cost $100 though.

Is it totally flush with the cylinder, or can you grab it at all? I'd try the tiny needle nose pliers

The key was just in there..I guess number 1? Steering wheel is locked..I'll take a look again to see if there's any portion sticking out that I can grab with pliers or something.. how about the glue method?

I'm trying to avoid paying $100 for this, or whatever it may cost me ;-)

2 paper clips with 1/16"-1/8" bent at the tips, insert one above the key the other below the key (vertically). you might have to get in there along the sides of what's left in there if it's all the way in at the hilt and then wiggle them up. the tumblers will allow the paper clips to slide through, just pull back once clips can grab onto a notch or two.

this worked for me on a beat up deadbolt, hopefully it works on a car ignition.

wow that's tough. good luck OP...

if the steering wheel's locked it's in the home position and the lock cylinder can't be pulled out.

after you get through this, get steel keys. That's what BMW and G-d intended for E30s. Brass keys suck, and they are what you get at a hardware store type place. They're just coated. If you take a magnet to the key and it slides off it's brass.
