John Mayer = Wanna-be Dave Matthews

Sorry, I just don't think he's very good.

A lot of people say that, but I don't think they do at all. John Mayer plays more with an electric guitar, where Dave plays mostly with an acoustic. I've seen Dave in concert twice in St. Louis, both were awesome concerts, but I wish John Mayer would play here.

You can't really compare Mayer and Dave Matthews, especially at this point in time. Dave has moved on from the poppy, catchy stuff that everyone loved (Ants Marching, Tripping Billies, etc.) to his recent stuff, which purely reflects his aging. A lot of people don't like the new Dave stuff as much, but I really like Some Devil and Busted Stuff.

Mayer has some good stuff, but he is a lot younger and has only been in the game for a couple years at most. Dave's been around for over a decade.

Alright, maybe not ten times better, but he is definitely better. And not to say that Dave isn't fucking awesome, cause he is, but I suck at guitar, and I can play a bunch of his songs. I have tried playing some of John Mayer's songs, and I just couldn't do it. Listen to some of his live stuff and you will agree, I promise. ;)

If you want to listen to great guitar, there's plenty of old jazz and blues guitarists that never got rich because they didn't write lame songs aimed at a specific pop audience. John Mayer may be good at guitar, but that doesn't change the fact that the rest of the musical parts are BORING and his voice is gay and whiny. Not a huge fan of the lyrical content either.

Hohn Mayer is pretty good, nowhere in comparison to musical talent that Dave Matthews has though. Granted, he can lay down some fat lines on his guitar, but he has how many different instruments in his band?

Ok, you're right....

...mostly. Some of the music is pretty cool, definitely very jazz-influenced. Yes, his voice sucks, his lyrics are kinda queer, and most of his fans listen to NSYNC and The Backstreet Boys, but I still appreciate his talent as a musician. But don't worry, I'm not about to go out and buy his CD's and calenders, though.
