Being fast on the ring is really about knowing the ring. This 318 is not that quick, to be honest.

id be willing to put money up that thats not an m42, lite car or not that seems to accelerate pretty hard in the straights.. and the fact he passed two porsches and what looked to be a newer 5 series.. yea..
it doesnt even sound like a 4 cyl to me..

Meh, still not as quick as Fangio. Unimpressed.

When you drive a 318i for years, it's easy to get good at driving it.

After 5 years of ownership, and dialing my suspension into just the way I want it...

You learn your car's boundaries and capitalize upon its strengths rather than complaining about it being underpowered.

that being said, this guy's a pro.

Is 9 minutes really that impressive for a well set up and very, very light car on racing tires?

The driver is clearly pretty good, but I'm not sure why people are so surprised by this... Speed deltas get very incremental past a certain point.

Yep, that's pretty standard for anything well setup with somebody who knows their way around the Nordschleife. Definitely not completely out of the ordinary, but impressive nonetheless.

I've yet to watch it, but I'd say it's most likely an M42 powered car. Some of you that don't have any track experience would be amazed by the way a momentum car can pull a high HP car on a short straight when the high HP car isn't able to carry as much speed (whether that be due to the driver or some other circumstance). That's why he'd be pulling on higher dollar machinery, but like I said, I've yet to watch it. So I could very well eat them words.

                        Thats a good lap.

In a simulator, driving a DTM E30 M3, i can only get around that time. In a Lotus 98T 80's F1 car, i still only get in the 8 minute area lol...

                        simulator....i know, its not real.

No, 9 minutes is not that fast when it is bridge to gantry.

Here's a slightly modified FWD volvo that weighs 3400 lbs from the factory putting down a low 8 minute lap:

People blow their load on wide angle videos because it makes it look so much faster than it is, this car isn't crazy.

It does sound like a S42 swap. For those of you that watched and know old school BTCC from the mid 90's,you know that sound.
