I never let my car sit and idle for an extended time frame. Maybe 1 min at most. I won't fire it up and immediately drive off but I won't let it run for 15 min.

Meh, during the winter I usually let it sit and idle with the heater on only so I don't have to chip ice off the windshield and so I have a nice toasty car to take off in.

The first few months I had my E30, I was running Castrol 10w40, then switched to Castrol Edge 5W50 synthetic. Honestly, my warm up practice didn't change, but the speed of warm up was definitely different.
Start it, don't let it sit usually longer than a minute, unless I'm cleaning the car off (and if it's really cold), then drive off without stomping on the gas. I'm probably a little more anal. I keep the revs around 1500 RPM (70 km/h in my Eta) until the temp gauge is about half way between the end of the blue section and the first white tick. Then I'll gradually speed up to 80, and keep it there until I'm past the tick. Even with our cold weather last year, she was always consistent - generally reached full temp inside 6-7 km of driving - when I was on dino the first while, it took a little longer, but was still inside 10 km.Estoguy
