E30 in Norcal, 200k miles. No receipts of maintenance. Had a recent tune up which the owner told me included new plugs, wires, cooling and vac hoses, radiator, brakes and rotors. Also says that the profile and head gasket were done but no receipts or proof of this. Asking 5k. Should I try to buy it for 4.5k? Or should I steer clear?
Should I buy this E30?

The only thing scaring me off is the lack of maintenance because the last E30 I bought was similar to this and I had to do the head gasket, profile gasket, both oil pans, valve cover gasket, and whole timing system all within 3 months...1991 318i - T-Boned

$5k is a bit high. A clean 318is is worth a fair price but I would think closer $4k is more reasonable.91 318is M50 swapped

if you unfuck the suspension, un-gheyify the wheel centers, and put some reasonable tires on it, i would say it would be about 4x better than it is now. looks like he rolled the shit out of his fenders. you would want to take a good look at the inside of the lips to see what kind of job was done. usually rolling ruins the paint on the inside so they wind up rusting.
as to anything else, its hard to say. no pix of the interior's "leather" cracks. it appears to be a good car by the pics. assuming this to be the case it is probably worth what is asked for it especially in your area.
any time i see someone make obvious retarded kiddie mods to a car, i always wonder what else they f'ed up with hillbilly engineering. looks like there might be something silly with the exhaust. if you do go to look at it, definitely take a good look at the oil pan since it is probably about 2.5" above the asphalt and suffered plenty of abuse.sigpic
