    bmw 524td?

were those ever officially imported in the US?

I keep seeing a couple in the Boston area, but I am unable to locate any engine/parts in junkyards and recycle centers.

any body have any info on those? especially people using motor parts from this engine.

    any info is welcome.

524tds are out there but they are rare cars. I found one once in the junkyard.

I'm currently using their exhaust manifold for my turbo setup on the 325i.

What he said. I believe that was the only diesel BMW brought over.

More were imported than were sold. Or bought, I should say. Diesels were not popular.
            Im now E30less.

When you factor in the hassle of finding one, working on one and paying for parts, you can get the same economy & performance from a 528e, which are a dime a dozen.

The crank is about the only part of value.

I saw one for sale on the boston craigslist for really cheap, like $400 IIRC, you could buy it, keep the crank and manifold, and part it out and make all your money back if your interested.

So we can use their manifolds for a tubro setup. Does this make it easier than just buying an aftermarket one or does it just cut down on costs?

Sorry for kinda shitting on the thread.

Yes it does, if you are going for a cheap sure-shot. I somewhat regret doing it, but it gets the job done. I rather have gone all the way with a decent tubular manifold to begin with.

But the 524td is the cheapest manifold out there, and it will get the job done (with some modification)
