I spray Plasti Dip under my car, except for the exhaust system. I drive the car year round, through salt and snow. Actually, E30 is a lot of fun on snow. You guys in the warmer climate are missing out the experience.

Need a link here to the thread "How often are you working on your e30?"

Sorry OP, I think your thread is hijacked, though we'd still like to know how it worked out.

I don't unquestioningly trust my E30 the way I trust my 30 years newer Japanese cars. I'm the only driver of the E30, I carry tools and fluids and I dress to walk. It has never let me down, but so far I've only had to DD it when my daughter wrote off the Nissan POS.

My retirement project will be driving to Tierra del Fuego in my E30. That's 10 years off and I should have enough spares by then.

I constantly do 1,000km+ road trips in my E30. Never had an issue but I have passed plenty of broken down modern cars though.

Sorry if I saw this earlier I would have come to lombardi, like ~25 miles from my house. Glad you made it to where you had to go. Somewhat.

Still working on it. One of the starter bolts is really pissing me off.

Just a question - would the bad slave cause a slipping clutch? Besides being hard to shift, it's slipping like a bastard.

I did give it a break in period. Took it easy for a while. It had NO issues for the first 7 hours of the drive. Literally everything was okay, I hit some stop and go traffic , and went I tried second, it didn't work. It wasn't like it was a problem that started slowly and I ignored it - it just started.

This is why I'm so lost. Everyone has ideas for the hard shifting, but what about the clutch not holding well, even with light throttle in first? Besides the break in period, no one has mentioned what MIGHT be causing the slipping.

And just to try and be more explanatory - the hard shifting was sudden. The clutch slipping I didn't notice until VA - seemed to get worse the closer I got to where I am in MD.

EDIT: Can the rod on the slave have any back and forth play? I don't notice any leaks, but that rod moves a bit?

Did you put a new slave in or no? IMO it could be the slave if it is old or broken in some way. I think a bad slave could cause slipping if it doesn't allow the clutch assemble to fully engage.

Believe me, I am glad to see it, too! I'm trying a new slave - only $25 from blunt and he ships fast as hell. I'm ready to get to SC and settle in!

Clutch seemed okay. No oil, or any visible issues. Will probably be fri / sat till I have a slave to try. Will update.

To everyone who has taken the time to respond, thank you. I hope this works, and I hope you all have a happy and safe holiday.

I was going to say maybe the slave blew and sprayed brake fluid all over the clutch, but if it isn't oily...
