7-8ft lbs should be put on with an inch lbs wrench. 96in lbs is high enough that it works great even on a harbor freight 1/4" drive torque wrench.
Wow this new torque wrench is grea... FSCK!

Anyone else care to comment on the serverity of damage that this can do. Dont forget that under engine warm up and oil pressure build up there will more than likely be leaks.Comment

Little bit of an update
I got the car all buttoned back together, its running great :) Nice to have timing belt and all that done.
There's no oil leaking from that section still, so i think i'm in the clear.
There is of course other leaks to tend to but ah well. What can you expect with a 20 year old car.Comment

I don't understand this. 3 days to do a timing belt, and you break shit? Seriously, buy the appropriate tools, and keep them, that way you know how they respond. If it says anything less than 20 lb ft it means "snug."Comment

well it was more like 6 hours of work spread over 3 days.
and yeah, breaking shit is what all the cool kids do, don't you wish you were hardcore?
I'm so hardcore I smashed my car into a guard rail and lived to tell about it.Comment
