I'm 18 and am hopping onto my parents insurance plan with an 1989 325i with no compensation if I crash it, for $160. What policies do you have? Have you told them about the parts you have in it and had the price raised?
My insurance is 160 per year. Liberty Mutual on my parent's plan. I got a quote if I was on my own policy and it like 1700$ or something per year. I don't know why being on my parents is so much cheaper, but if you guys are young and have parents who pay for insurance ask them to hook you up. I wouldn't have been able to get my car if insurance was 1700$ a year because I don't have a career yet and that's way too much for my life right now. The only thing different is that my car is technically my moms because I have to register it in her name to get the discount, which is completely fine by be, considering I saved 1500$ a year for a car I paid 2k for.
And another question, how much did you guys pay for sales tax? I haven't brought it in to get registered yet but I asked liberty mutual how that works and they said it's based on the "market value" of the car. So even though I paid 2k, if the average 1989 325i is worth 4k I have to pay the sales tax of a 4k car. Is that just in MA? What did you guys have to pay for sales tax?
