Everyone in our province has to buy the basic insurance for a vehicle through ICBC. No choice. All the optional coverages can be bought through a couple other providers.

Our insurance insures the car, not the driver.

I am 40, own three cars, have not had an accident or claim for 24 years, and pay almost 2k for my xterra, $2400 for my 135i cab, and $1800 or so for my 88 m3, all with full coverage. That's WITH a maximum 44% premium reduction for safe driving.

Yep, $6200 after tax income to insure my cars.

According to the current market I should be covered for close to the price of an e36 m3, and not a 325e.
As a Geico customer too, I think you are getting ripped off. Unless of course you have a really bad record.

I'm 25, and I have two different Geico policies; one in NY, one in MI.

I just moved to Michigan officially now, so I am in process of swapping it all over to MI.

The '87 325is with full coverage and '82 Rabbit Truck on liability come out to $76/month. That's my Michigan policy, and Michigan is a no-fault state, therefore expensive normally. Being out of the 'danger-age' zone helps.

The '90 Jetta GL on liability and '13 GTI come to roughly $85/month. New York policy with full coverage on the GTI, as it is a 'new' car.

This doesn't even count the $12/month to insure my '83 Oldsmobile on classic insurance.

              $173/month for 5 cars. Not bad. I don't complain.

Plus I have two more that are not insured as one I am selling soon and the other is a rot-box I need to work on.

You should downgrade your insurance coverage to liability with a driving record like that. For my 07 Focus I pay $800ish per year for basic coverage. on the e30 I just put plates on it whenever I need coverage (usually daily)

Is there any rational behind the price besides profit? I assume by province you mean Canada. Is the longer winters part of it? More accidents? In my family on insurance we have an 05 outback 3.0r (sadly my brother totaled it just a few days ago ) my mom's new mazda 3, my dad's 2014 base model impreza hatch, a 2009 mini cooper clubman s, and now my 89 325 for similar price as you. I also think more than 1000 of our cost is because my brother has totaled a motorcycle, a minivan, and now the outback in 13 months.

By province, I mean province of British Columbia. Canada is a country.;)

Everyone is allowed insurance, no matter how poor their driving record is. No denial policy, so insurance companies cannot cherry pic good drivers.

Hell, if I didn't have safe driver credits it would be 44% more, so........10k ish

                              I'll double check but I think it's 2500mi/yr.

I also should review the policy, when I got it I was single w no kids, and now I'm married with kids. Not sure if that really matters on a classic car policy or not. Driving record is clean w no tickets/accidents.

I'm paying about that for my M3, same mileage cap, much higher valuation, through American Collector's Insurance.
