wierd strut tower mount

im looking at a pic of iX's strut tower mounts right now and they seem to protrude into the engine bay. why are these different from regular e30 strut tower mounts? do they lower the car at all?

Because the iX is AWD so it has a completely different front suspension to accomodate the front end drivetrain.
