    True, I should have said "highly-modified, non-factory (for consumers) developed engines with 120hp/liter are not comparable to stock engines with regards to reliability." Even so, look at the issues the S54 has.

      From what I heard, the original S54s didn't have the rod bearing problem. Once the waiting list for completed S54s grew, the quality of the engines declined to try to meet the demand.

      Mass producing (relatively, not talking 100,000+) any part that requires precision, let alone a semi-race engine with dozens of precise parts that require high tolerances is never an easy thing to do. That's why some manufacturers don't even try to mass produce their sporty engines (MB/AMG, Porsche, BMW?)

            The recall for bearing replacment affected S54s built from Feb 01 to May 03, I believe the CSLs were all produced later then 5/03....

              That and I think BMW would put some 'special attention' to even higher strung S54s
