What Adam F 88IS told you was right on.
My dad's 83 533i (E28) has that OBC in it. I've also seen it in an 83 633.
I don't know for sure if it will fit in an E30 or not, but I assume it won't.

I asked that same question a long time ago. To me that's some sort of integrated phone.
