                Ebay lists the sold price.

$61k for an old car that you probably can't get financing for, so was most likely bought with cash, points to someone with over 1mil in equity. Which would only be 16x the selling price. Being a millionaire isn't what it used to be.

It would have been sooo much cheaper to make yourself a replica, no? if the engine, cloth, gauges and stickers ect.. was that much important to people, I mean they used the same German BMW chassis and parts and added stuff to it

There are many other ways to finance a vehicle than an auto loan. My wife and I just bought a car with the proceeds of a personal loan for example. With other types of financing (home equity, personal loan, investment withdrawals, etc) it doesn't matter what old vehicle you spend the money on or how much a financial institution thinks it would be worth.

I'm not saying the purchaser is your average Joe, but definitely does not have to be a millionaire buyer.

Um, no. It's got 50hp over a stock M30B35. It has larger brakes, and Alpina suspension. Close-ratio dogleg box as well. It would take ~$20k to build a replica, if you could even find the pieces to pull that off. And it would still be a replica.

You can buy a GT40 kit car, or a Cobra kit car..

attempting to find a complete vent gage is pretty close to impossible. my guess is they are probably over 3k now.
