I know we all wanna get rich off of parts, but

Does anyone else wish people would leave the prices in the 'for sale' ads once things are sold? I would love to have a reference for what things have sold for in the past.

I don't think it's always the case, but I get the feeling people sell pretty much sell everything for a shitload less than asking price, but delete the prices when sold to keep from sounding like a douche who wanted too much for their parts. Or maybe it's somehow to protect the buyer? I leave the prices at which parts are sold in my f/s thread. Like ebay. It seems to make the market a bit more fair for the buyers.

Help me find peace with this… Or just flame the shit out of me.

I hate that too, I'm pretty sure it's mainly to stop people asking about it but it's annoying when I'm trying to figure out what things go for.

I get that, but put "sold" in the thread title and "sold $400" in the actual thread maybe.

I usually leave the thread title, edited to "SOLD: >Item description< "

Then a big "SOLD" first thing in the OP. Don't even bother to bump it, just edit.

Hate when people delete entire post content too.

I do it in case the person decides to resell the part/car/wheels/whatever for a different price down the road. I hate when people pull up a 3 year old for sale thread and say "well you only paid xyz for it." Prices change with the market.

Well those guys can shove it. Lots of us bought our e30's before they jumped up in price, and I'll be damned if I sell them for what I paid for them. Prices do change, but leaving the price in the thread is also nice for seeing that happen.

I think people hide buying and selling price because they're afraid of embarrassment. Everyone wants to win at what they're doing, especially when it comes to money, so no one wants to put themselves out there in case they sold it for too little, or paid too much.

If course, 99% of FS threads on here are OBO and/or + shipping....so the price listed most likely isn't what was paid.

...but it gives a good general idea.

I'd just like for the guys who sell parts and are secure with themselves, to list the selling price when it's sold. It's my prom-promise to do this henceforth.

I'll do it if I remember to.
Were you looking at something in particular?

A better thing would be for people to leave the description of for sale stuff in the OP. Google still links your thread when searching and it may help someone decide they want or don't want something now they they know what it looks like/upkeep/etc.

Also it would be nice have a for sale feedback section like ebay does. If I have a good experience with someone I'm more likely to hand them more money.

I understand why people delete prices because they don't feel it's relevant or don't want people to know they went soft on a deal or whatever. But more than that, I feel like with prices deleted it's your responsibility to figure out a good asking price which means you have to learn good business or no one will buy your stuff.

A local forum I belong to asks to leave ad as is with sold price added, in its rules sticky. Rules are made to be broken i suppose as it doesn't seem to happen often.

There's an all BMW auto wrecking in my neck of the woods, he has mostly e36 z3 z4 e46 and e30's. Huge lot, but as soon as you ask him for a price on a certain item he goes straight to EBAY and sees what they are going for and then offers a price.

I imagine that's what sellers are doing..
