From the amended for sale rules:

Post as much info as you can. A price must be posted As many pictures as you can, even if it is a common item that everyone knows what they look like. A picture tells a thousand words, but it can also conceal another thousand. Once the item sells, do not edit your ad to remove the price. Many people search through old ads to get an idea what their item is worth.
Of course I don't want to spend more time researching. That's exactly what this is about in addition to the whole 'fair market' aspect.

Leaving the asking price doesn't tell you how much it sold for though, so it's an unrealistic marker of what the part is worth. So we're back to deciding for ourselves, which is part of the fun anyway.
And isn't the value of an inanimate object merely a subjectively perceived value anyway?
Haggling over parts is fun =D

I agree. Put up a price you think is fair. If you underprice... you will sell it quickly, but since you set the price you were comfortable with you should be okay with that. Whether you overprice is moot since you will get more than one person saying you are asking too much and people will make lower offers. You can then haggle...

I guess hand holding is becoming extremely pervasive... if you have ever been to a junkyard, and let's face it all e30 owners SHOULD have been, you should know what a fair price for most common items are.

This just seems like a non-issue to me. Maybe I'm getting old.

I don't go to junkyards for e30 parts because the ones near me very rarely have e30s and when they do they're early models and mostly stripped of anything good. That or they're specialty yards and everything is over market value, though I'm not sure if we even have those anymore.

It's a starting point. I can argue all I want that a part is worth x because here's one for x, but it doesn't matter if someone won't pay it.

What it does tell you though is that someone put it up for x and it led to offers, or it may tell you more by how fast or slow it sold. It just gives a good reference to start with. There's no guidebook for part values so this is at least something to go off of.

I put the price at which it sold in my for sale ad. That is the most correct way.

I always just add a SOLD after the price and remove the picture. The red stands out nice and hopefully makes the retards see it and not PM me about it.
