    Help: Sunroof dimension problem

I ordered a replacement sunroof panel for my touring from a BMW-only salvage yard. I had checked the parts numbers on REAL OEM and they were all the same for e30s so I did not expect to have a problem.

The sunroof arrived and it was too wide for my touring! I assumed the salvage yard sent me the wrong one (im thinking e24, e23, e28 or something). I called them but and they confirmed it was from an e30 sedan with the VIN being EJxxxx which matched up to an e30 sedan. I am having them measure the width of the sunroof like I did. My coupe and touring have a width of approx 33.375in (correct one) and the panel they sent me is 35.250in (wrong one). I double checked REAL OEM which shows the same part number for all e30s (See below). Anyone know of different e30 sunroof widths? Maybe their parts car had an aftermarket sunroof? I could not find a part number on it so if anyone knows if there is a part number stamped into a e30 sunroof let me know.

My question: am I crazy or should even a UK touring model have the same sunroof width as every other e30?

there's no VIN stamped on a sunroof panel, so there's no way to prove it's from an E30 - except you know it's not because it doesn't fit! there are not 2 different sized sunroof panels that I've ever heard of in all the years of being into E30s...

Thank you for the confirmation. They must have sent me the wrong one. Now I just have to prove it to them so they send me a new one for free....

Also, my buddy measured his coupe just now. This is 2 coupes and a touring with the same width sunroof and same part number on REAL OEM so must have been the salvage yard goofing up.

It is possible that the salvage yard sent you an aftermarket sunroof panel. Was there a part number on the panel they sent you? Either way, explain the situation to them and I'd bet they will rectify the situation.

no part number but I thought of the aftermarket angle also. It looks pretty factory but I could be mistaken. Once i convince them of their error Im sure I will have no problems with a refund/replacement. Just wanted to make sure I am not crazy and have some extra ammo on my side if they dont believe me. Thanks for your input.

Have them send a picture of them measuring the opening of the car they got it out of. Should clear things up pretty quick.
