    D-mod anyone?

    What engine/chassis setups are cars successfully running in D-mod? Thinking about dumping some serious coin into a club racer. What range of weight/power ratios are we talking about here?

    I know this should be in the track section but no one ever looks there anymore.

    As time went on, the factory developed the car each year, making it faster, more comfortable, and capable of handling at higher speeds.
    You don’t want this. You want the trickiest, most dangerous, oldest model you can find. Only then can you prove to the world that you’re a man.

    S14/M50/E30.
    Under 10:1 power/weight ratios. Way under to be competitive.

            Lots of HP can mask bad driving. It isnt the case in DM, but you can see it all over any race track.

              Modified
              Cars will be classified based upon actual engine displacement as follows:
              A = over 5000cc
              B = 3500cc to 5000cc
              C = 2981cc to 3499cc
              D = 2200cc to 2980cc

              Jumping into Mod? Ha. Honestly, buy a K-prepared car off BMWCCA site if you want to play some cards, not stack your deck and hope your holding the nuts when they are laid down.

                You can see it a lot of places. Hell, CTS-V... ya know.

                But when it comes down to it, like in Auto-X... may be fast overall, and maybe no one shows up with a half-ready racecar in the region or can't drive worth shit either, but eventually you'll meet the one seasoned driver with a decent tossed together setup and show you the real way around the track.

                then j00 = pwned

                of course i'm speaking with a general "you" here. Heh, I'm gonna have some fun someday, and maybe have an ace in the hole or too.

                  Any BMW engine 2200-2980cc/chassis combo and no minimum weight(i think)

                    Thats auto-x, and in no way compares to the back straight at VIR, or coming off turn 7 at Road Atlanta.
                    [edit]
                    There is no minimum weight.

                      Magnitude? No. Similar? IMO, yea. You could build a fast car and clown locally, but overall there will be someone with a as-well built car and perhaps a better driver in SM or whatever.

                      A long-straight road course might magnify the difference greater, but in the end, there are going to be people with tons more money to blow on a lighter car, more power, and probably have a lot more experience, private driving/racing coach, etc.

                      Give someone a top 5 CR finishing car and chances are they won't be on top in the end. Hell, who wants to figure if 99.999% of this board could put Alex's car in the Top 10 nationally in DSP...

                      preping a car only goes so far. engine, wheels, tires, suspension, weight... the driver is in the ultimate equation too

                      KP. cheap, e30, growing, kiddie pool instead of diving into the deep end head first

                        who said anything about diving in head first? it will be a couple of years before this project is ready for the track. I have been and will be doing about a DE a month until then(not counting winter months), not to mention i never miss club auto-x's. I will stepup the power on the e30 soon and try to get accustomed to that on the track so that i will hopefully be some what capable by the time the car gets done.
