No doubt its a HELL of a lot cheaper, but a lot of us enjoy building our cars.

As for engine/chassis... I'd probably build up an aluminum block m52b28 w/ high compression pistons, porting, cams, headers, OBD1 conversion, etc. Then shove it in a early 318i w/ 5-lug, Motons, and e36 m3 brakes. That is, if I happened to stumble across $50k.

build your second car. or build another engine or move a prepared car into mod. but no sense at all to spend lots and lots of money and time, waiting for completion, to start CR if you want to. Buy a tried and true racecar, and go for it.

Then after knowing the costs of gas, transport, hotel, TIRES, repairs, fees, etc, you can build a car you want, after experiencing the competition and who all is running what.

no reason to pull an ///meric on your first CR car.

ha, very nice set-up listed. lb/hp estimate on a setup like that? maybe 2600lb/300rwhp? just trying to get a feel if the chassis/motor i have in mind can be somewhat competitive. im sure there are a bunch of people out there running that exact setup plus some.

I agree with you on enjoying the build as much as the final product. Plus even though its going to cost me more in the long run, i dont enjoy paying for other people's fuck-ups, if some aspect of my car is compromised its because i was stupid and intended it that way.

Are most of the mod guys running moton setups? I thought a sound yet somewhat basic coilover setup with DA shocks and adjustability all around would be enough.

As time went on, the factory developed the car each year, making it faster, more comfortable, and capable of handling at higher speeds.
You don’t want this. You want the trickiest, most dangerous, oldest model you can find. Only then can you prove to the world that you’re a man.
