Good Morning yall, I normally dont post as I am able to find 90% of my answers I need. however I have been unable to figure this one out. How do you open the hood if the lever in the car broke? I cant find the wire to pull to open it.

there's a slot in the front of the car for a flathead screwdriver. it's in the latch mechanism itself. twist it and your hood will pop open - needs to be a long screwdriver.
if this were a modern BMW, you'd probably have to remove the front wheels and the rear bumper, and then have a BMW technician hook up a $20k computer so they could test your hood release mechanism. :p -
Only to tell you it's bad and charge you $300......then proceed to total out the car with a list of components that aren't new, but aren't bad.there's a slot in the front of the car for a flathead screwdriver. it's in the latch mechanism itself. twist it and your hood will pop open - needs to be a long screwdriver.

If it were an i8 you'd have to have two people to open the hood or it will break.1974.5 Jensen Healey : 2003 330i/5Comment

This is funny, Thank you for a direct answer I felt really dumb on this. My car today decided to drain all its coolant when I arrived at work and it freaked me out as the Temp was normal then got mad because I could not open the hood. I am thankful for having a E30. I want a 1 Series but that will come down the road.Comment

hey, if it was a VW then it would just be broken. you'd probably have to take apart the whole car or something. :pComment

the point is you can still get the hood open if the release cable breaks on an E30. :pComment

I had the displeasure of driving a mkiv jetta for 40,000 miles. Best part was when it developed a hole in the exhaust and the vr6 got to sing.
Worst part was when it sat for 2 months and the entire interior became covered in mold due to standing water thanks to clogged roof drains.... Oh and then the timing chain guides decided to break. I think it just wanted to kill itself.Comment

She has put 120k on hers but it has the lowly 2.0. It still is going with 183k on it. Replaced the head gasket once and needs another one. Clutch is about done. Shit is falling apart everywhere. Hate that car.I had the displeasure of driving a mkiv jetta for 40,000 miles. Best part was when it developed a hole in the exhaust and the vr6 got to sing.
