7:30 AM to 2 PM…..that sucks. Too far away to help. Good luck.

Doesn't it seem like a shame to just sit on the interstate in a car like this? But then if you've got to be somewhere….

I've gone across the country three times in my E30 without issue (but I'm very persnickety about maintenance) it should be a good time once you get back on the road! sorry I couldn't help!

Update. After the first day my external pump going out, I ordered the part from advanced and got it this morning. Got a free jack too! 5 hours down the road and car died on me once again. This time the internal one. After driving to a fellow r3v members house, he was kind enough to help me out with providing me a fuel pump. But was missing the wire harness. So I searched autozone and what do you know? They were the only one to have a vega fuel pump and one only! So went and bought it. After taking all my bags out and replacing the old with the new, car runs again! But still scared. Hopefully this solves the problems. Two new fuel pumps. Crashing for tonight in bermingham Alabama. Wish me luck tomorrow!

Anyone remember that one thread where some dude broke down for like 3 days living in his car? I think he took a pic of some homeless dude he was hanging out with. That thread was hilarious.

OP, I wish you nothing but luck on your journey

I have broken down in both my BMWs....once wasnt really broken down because I ran out of gas with the gauge reading 1/4 tank. Once for an alternator.....this stuff happens and I have learned to not get too upset. Replace the part and move on!

i just did 1200 miles to colorado in my mtech. fortunately, the car did really well. my wife and i made it with no issues.

its unlikely both fuel pumps failed. is it possible you replaced the wrong one?

anyway, the fuel pump is definitely one of those items that should be replaced on any car that sits for a few years.

from here on out, you never know but the chances are pretty good you will be ok. you did replace the timing belt right?

My car was running fine on both its original fuel pump and its original water pump. Just had them both replaced along with the thermostat and radiator hoses. I figured that these items are responsible for most of the "being left stranded on the freeway breakdowns"

Any other items that should be pro-actively replaced on a 24 year old car to prevent breakdowns? I have the M42 engine so I don't have a timing belt. I want to be able to head out for a 500 mile trip with minimum worries.
