If the relays have popped out, it can crank but not start. It takes like five seconds to make sure that they are seated correctly, so do that before doing anything else.

When this happens and your key is in the "ON" accessory position does your check engine light glow?

If it does then it is likely your CPS, if not then it is an electrical issue between your ignition switch/ECU/Relays. The starter and ECU electrical system are on two different circuits, the starter can crank without the ECU. The check engine light can not go on without the ECU having power (the other cluster lights will), therefore if no check engine light, no ECU power.

Pull the oil cap off, and look so see if the camshaft rotates while someone cranks the engine over.

If it doesn't, you will need a new head.
        My worst fear =(

I had the car towed to a shop near me and the mechanic informed that the timing belt broke. I even bought a belt kit and was planning on doing it this weekend!!!!!

So what are my options from here? The car was completely stopped when the engine cut off. Is there a chance I won't need to rebuild a cylinder head?

Ee, sorry to hear that. No, the head has to come off at this point.
