    Why are 944's so cheap

Love the way they look and remember really liking they way they drove (it was almost 20 years ago). I am tempted to buy one every time I start looking around on CL. Seems like a pretty decent N/A example with 100K are around 5G's. What's the deal? Am I alone in liking the 80's style of these?

    too hard to LS swap

    EDIT:

Ha...took Justin about 8 seconds to prove me wrong

Fuck E30s, I want an LS powered 944.

I am going to start building rear seat delete kits with subwoofers and storage pockets for the 944, speaker systems as well.

    Closing SOON!

No, they look great. For some reason they are not a "true" Porsche to a lot of people. That and the maintenance on them can be expensive. Though I hear the non-turbos are actually quite reliable.

With e30 prices the way they are I wonder if these are next to pick up steam. Seem to be a lot of them out there. Must have been fun blowing money back then

They've already started going up. I bought a decent '86 Turbo for $5500 back in 2007 and sold it a year later for $6k. That same car is probably 10 grand now. And you could find decent NA cars for $3-4k all day, even here in Michigan, but now it seems like the prices start at $5k.

Compared to the E30, they do look better and have a better chassis. But they are slower, more fragile, harder to work on, and the parts are more expensive. Regardless, I want another one. I just love the styling so much.

Tom did you find the Turbo to be slower than an e30? I would think the 16V would give a 325 a decent run and the turbo would run away.

Not any worse than E30s. For aggressive driving, timing belt should be changed every 20K for E30.

How about 924s? Mechanically they are the same as 944s. They should be a little faster than 944s because of weight difference. I test drove one couple of years ago, my e30 felt like a benz compared to that! I've been looking for a clean one ever since.

You were reading between my lines...ha

The 924's are rad too but the 944s' look so much more aggressive and there seem to be a lot more out there. According to my Porsche poster the 944's were about 150LB more at 2600 lbs. Seems that the 924 GT was the feather weight at 2205.

I hope my e30's don't catch wind of this chatter. I am going to be walking tomorrow.

Most of the 924's were VW powered.

Oh, hell no. The Turbo would blow any stock E30 off the road, and mine had the boost turned up. It was a blast to drive, but it also had crazy turbo lag which made it a terrible autocross car. That, and my fear of the repair costs are why I sold it. I regret it now, though.

But it's a more complicated job requiring a special tool on the 944. Then there's the clutch change.....

Not sure about the NA 944 but I had a 944 turbo and it was awful. Never again owning one of those.
