I 3D printed a thing - Center Vent Gauge Pod!

I picked up a fucking cool looking Stewart Warner oil pressure gauge and decided to make a mount for it.

This was printed out of nylon, which is a real pain in the ass to work with sometimes. I have a spool of black ABS coming in today. Provided I can get my settings tweaked and get the ABS printing smoothly, I can get a much better surface finish and hopefully no warping.

Would anyone be interested in these? I've had a few people in my build thread express interest.

shit man if i still had an e30 i'd be ordering one in a heartbeat

jaywood does a shitton of business for e30 gauge panels though, maybe you two can collude together to make some serious coin

Just got my ABS spool in yesterday. When I get back from Kadunza I can start playing around with it!

For so long I wondered why we haven't done these yet. Audi and VW guys use them all he time.
Maybe because their interiors are generally cleaner than ours and actually have functional AC's.

Looks good man. I dig it.

Printing nylon is hard. So I can see why the first one looks funky. ABS should work well, It'll still look 3d printed(not what people want). Maybe you can try to smooth it with an acetone vapor bath? I just wrote about it on hack-a-day. http://hackaday.com/2015/05/16/ultra...printed-parts/

I'd say stay away from PLA - that will more-or-less melt in the sun(windows up, hot day) I would think.

^ Thanks for the link Gorge. I'll try that out when I move into my new place and set up my printer

Interested in both vents, provided it will be resilient enough to withstand heat!

I'd be interested depending on price.

I definitely will. Even if the ABS setup turns out the way I want, it will still be pretty time consuming. All depends on demand and price point.

I'm back from Knoxville - the Kadunza guys were helping me out with my motor build. Now I can start dumping time into ABS calibration! I'll keep this updated as I go along.

First ABS print should be done in three hours...

How did that print go? Just got a 3D printer and I'm playing around with possibilities for printed interior parts. Hopefully going to fab up something to keep my vents pointing straight.
