The E34 was available in Europe and probably the rest of the world in 88 as WE always are the last to get stuff here in the US. Our model years generally go an extra year also than everyone elses due to tooling for our market and ligitagation laws.

      E34's had M30 3.5l and was called 535i there was also 520i and 525i with M20 engines.

E34's saw the 3.0 V8 at the same time as the M50 engines in Europe due to displacement. The ranged from lowly 520's to 540's.

The senior six was available as a 2.8l engine a smaller clone of the 3.5 M30 and Tuners such as hartge and Alpina stated that the PS which is a slightly differant rating of HP was over 217 ps for their hybrid 2.7 M20's

I can be done. We in the US have crappy gas so we hardly ever see good camshaft profiles nor do we as a whole never rev our cars above 4k rpm. Carbon and fowling, and bad gas equal detonation, something Diego knows well.

car mags tend to hype things and don't proof read articles well now a days so take it with a grain of salt.

        see!?!!?

you are right man! But I didn't know that were available 3.0L V8... :o what engine family was that? compared with the 3.5L 6 cyl wich was faster?

Yes, the gas,a t least over here sucks, even when we get (sopously) 97 Octane, are crapp. When the war started the gas went to hell , my stroker Jeep (pistons forged) with 9.5:1 CR started to ping even when I was refilling the same gas in the same gas station. They mixed the gas with other chemicals, since the economy started to go at the hell too in almost all the world.

BTW, wich is your name? You helped me a lot asnwering some of my question and still don't know wich is your name...

          Whiners.

The M50 came into the E34 in 1991 as the first car with the new 24v design.

The M30 dates back to the 70's....

I read about that Korman engine in european car too. Me and Brew were talking about it, and I just can't understand how'd they'd make a typo or some sort of mistake TWICE. I thought european car was pretty accurate and didn't like to report unconfirmed numbers. I'm sure that atleast a few readers wrote to the magazine about this, and hopefully they'll have an answer to the questions in a later issue.

maybe korman reported "227 dyno proven HP"...the magazines...not realizing it was an engine dyno, misinterperted and claimed 227 rwhp, as chassis dynos are more common that engine dynos i would say...well in the "tuning" scene at least. 227 crank HP isnt that hard to fathom out of an M20...though on a 272 cam and 9.75 compression it may be....

FYI, Korman uses a Waterpump/Engine dynomometer. Not a chassis dyno.

CORRECTO! been reading this thread and i thought it was about a 525i. and people are talking about an m30 i was like wtF?

btw 88 would be an e28 atleast here in the US. 88 was the first year for US M5 which was e28. and stu is correct about the m30 being around since the 70's. great engine imho (maybe im biased because i've got one...)

until today and from what ihad, at least my dad until today, the M30 engines by far was(probably is) the most hard engine ever made by BMW, the 535i E34 never got us a problem, just the basic service...never failed except for blew head gasket once.....strong and vey torquey
