I was just pointing it out because I thought it was comical. It could mean something bad, or it could mean the guy is just clueless about cars alltogether.

Either way, remember that you don't have to buy this car. Take your pops with you and if something doesnt seem right, wait for the next one. Or do the pre purchase inspection mentioned before. Maintenance on these cars is paramount. If it has been neglected your wallet will suffer. You have a running, reliable car now, right? You hold the cards...

My first e30 was a rustbucket 1986 325 that I paid too much for because I didnt want to "miss out". I sank way too much money into it and should have just started with a cleaner example.

    Good luck.

My dad is pretty good with cars hes building a model T right now and has always been a gearhead since he was my age. Should i save my money for a cleaner e30 at the end of the summer or get this one thats a little rougher but could fix up good? Idk im torn between what to do, i feel like this price is pretty fair. How much would an m20 engine swap cost me if this one blew on me after i bought it? Sorry for so many questions guys but I appreciate the help.
Personally and from my past "teen" car experiences I would just work hard this summer and save up a little more to get something decent that you don't have to sink a bunch of cash into. Look at it this way, you could possibly (depending on where you live) find a decent 325i for about 2-3k or get this for 800 and wish you had an I and spend 3000 to get it where you want. I get where you are coming from about it being a good deal but I would wait. Heck I just picked up a 89 325i 5 speed vert in pretty decent condition from a lady for 1200, needs a tune up and a new top. She didn't know what she had and I snagged it cheap. Granted I was looking for a while and once I saw the ad on CL I called her got her cash within a few hours of the ad being posted. Or see if he takes $500 and fix it a little have some fun and flip it. At worst you'd probably break even and have some fun driving it.

My first e30 was an 86es and I enjoyed it in stock form. If it checks out with your dad, I'd totally buy it

If it's got tits or tires, it's gonna cost ya!
