Ha you guys are lucky. I went to Ohio State and they match the license plate up to your student account somehow (not really sure how that happened honestly since the car was in my Dad's name). In any case, they somehow did and would lock my account so that I couldn't register for classes until I paid the parking tickets. Probably easily racked up $500 in my 4 years there.

I used the "they don't know who I Am so it doesn't matter" logic when I got a parking ticket visiting a friend a Brown university a while back. About a year later I got a notice from a collections agency for a $35 overdue payment in the mail. Paid it because I was worried it would somehow end up on my credit.

Haha that's odd. No collections here so far. And that was last year.

Thats funny. My friend used to sneak me into the back gates of his neighborhood. I'd get one of those "tickets" every time, but nothing ever really happened with it. I just shrugged it off as a scare tactic, fyi this was a very rich community with massive houses. You weren't even allowed to park street side iirc every car had to be either garaged or in the driveway. HOA's are cancer

the following story is kind of shitty and looking back on it, i wish i wouldn't have pulled this scam, but.....when i was in my last year of college, i used to have my license plate held on to the back of my car with a magnet. i used to carry a couple random plates in the trunk that hadn't been registered to anything in several years. i had no idea who it originally belonged to. when i would park in one of the university lots, i would swap my plate out for this bogus one. every time i got a ticket i would wad it up and throw it in the trash. i bet over the course of a semester, i racked up close to a dozen tickets that were never traceable to me.

now days, i suppose that university's have computers that would have gotten me towed after perhaps the second or third ticket.

back then, i viewed this behavior as pushing back against an entity that was trying to stick it to the man. now i kind of view is as stealing.

HOA's suck, but they actually do some good in rural or bigger lot style property areas,

example, my area I live now, in Orlando, let the HOA fall apart, then certain people started buying up homes and loading them up with derelict vehicles, well, then the people with the larger properties, like 1-5 acres, decided that the area they lived in was going to shit, along with their property values, so they reinstated the HOA. With the rules and regs. in place, it gave the county code enforcement carte blanche to write up every offender to remove the said derelict vehicles and clean up there property, thus making these people comply with the county codes and HOA rules. which a lot probably ended up moving,

I wouldnt say that's stealing. Having to pay to park is bull shit at any school. I'm already paying thousands in tuition and you can't even give me a free place to park??

Ha damn really? I lived in Columbus for 10 years (2 on OSU and 4 in Grandview, 4 all over the place). I had gotten tickets living on campus and numerous for parking in campus lots. When ever I got them I immediately threw them in the garbage and would always get a notice about it then nothing....mind you I didn't go to school there, just happened to live around it. I do not miss OSU parking patrol. These were all directly from OSU parking affairs, anything from the city I always paid of course.

I am t3h enemy. I work at one of those HOA management companies. Granted, I am the accounting manager, but still.

And yes, the rules are stupid. But in most cases they are unenforceable. Only unpaid assessments are a legitimate reason to bring legal action against an owner in California. All else is an attempt to modify behavior through intimidation.

HOAs can't enforce county codes, but they can do the leg work for counties and are protected by the law.

The guy who wrote the ticket is just doing so to prove to his boss that he was there. There isn't even a building or unit number written on it.

Unless they tow, there is nothing to worry about. Unenforceable.

Uni and college parking tickets are sent to the DMV and are added to the cost of registering and getting your renewal tags in California (every year). So there is no running away from it :(

A rent a cop isn't an official peace officer. This ticket or "warning" is useless and meaningless. Look at the ticket, it doesn't look like there is a denomination anywhere. Toss it and forget about it, the dick head was showing you his powers backed by his guard card.

I go to my buddy's condos every once in a while and get these notices. I usually leave a nice, friendly note on it and leave it on the ground in plain sight.

PS: HOAs suck. Will never purchase a property in HOA neighborhood. Ever.
