Facebook has taken the wind out of the sails of many forums lately. Luckily for R3V that means less typical bullshit and more builds.
The fall of R3v?

Anymore just go to the appropriate section and there will be 5 threads on the first page of people asking your exact same question and 3 of them will have "fuck off and search", one will have 0 replies, and one may have an answer.Yep. I miss that stuff. I even miss the people who would tell you that your car looks like shit in Member's Rides, or nitpick something like "perfect respray, but your trunk badge is off by a quarter inch. Part it out."
No one wants to search any more. You could probably answer a question faster by searching instead of asking it and waiting for someone to reply.1974.5 Jensen Healey : 2003 330i/5Comment

So get another one and post.
Or join a minivan forum...
But seriously, all popular cult cars go through this dip in their popularity and development as a "classic." They're new and stylish, yuppies buy them. They're just used cars and there's a newer faster model and people look past them. They're still great cars and good-looking and cheap, so younger people start buying them up. They get really cheap and kids start stuffing V8s in them / cutting them up / bigazz wings / drifting yo. They get wrecked, they rust away. They get rediscovered and appreciated, and people start restoring rust buckets and showing them. They get old and there are way fewer of them and the prices shoot through the roof for an original generic stock example.
Look at the prices on 2002s, old 911s, old Alfas.

this x10. it's what happened when 240sx's started getting hit with the drift tax, same with 86's. the days of the easy-to-find $500 beater are long gone
then again, the cost of pretty much any RWD fun car has skyrocketed within the past few years (i blame the rise in the popularity of drifting). add to how chilluns are being ransacked with student debt from toiletpaper degrees and the population has been severely culledComment

yes :)I'll cover a few questions. Most, if not all the OG's are still here - we (I guess I'm an OG) don't post every day, cause our lives are different now. Kids, responsibilities, ect. Blunt for example is working 14 hours days running blunttech.com(Amazingly fast shipping of parts - ya got to try blunt tech once, and you'll be hooked). M3Ryan is married with like a zillion kids and running an independent VW/Audi/P-car/BMW repair shop. Others have gone on to make BMW parts as a full time gig.
As far as post per day....ummmm - nope - I bet there are more. Too many to keep up with. Have you seen some of the builds? M60 swaps are the new s50. Lots of sexy build there IMHO.
We still roast a noob when called for - but only for really being a butt head - there are still the "taste of my skills" and "I poped a tire" threads. If you want to really get disappointed, head on over the the r3v facebook page. That's where the noobs have gone to to ask questions. It's really sad there. Questions like "Do e36 M3 bumpers bolt on to an e30?"
BTW - welcome back!
I have a kid now. I can't post as much. I still lurk a lot but don't want to spend the time to get into some kind of debate over something stupid.

Does the tamed atmosphere have to do with some of the forums sponsors? Remember the whole Waffleswaffleswaffles debacle of 14'?
There are threads that are getting locked and removed that I feel in no way are offensive to anyone. The Ginger thread was amazing, a real life r3v soap opera and boom, disappeared.sigpic

I bought my first e30 in 05 and I remember being afraid to register on r3v due to what I perceived to be intense flaming (back when Jordan et al were on the forums I believe). I ended up regging at e30tech and and lurking g here. I didn't muster the courage for r3v until 08.Originally posted by LJ851I programmed my oven to turn off when my pizza was done, should i start a build thread?

forum seems about the same as a year ago. FB r3v page, however....80% of posts are "for sale" and about e30 tax.Comment

2013 many of the og's already didn't post as much or are doing other things.
2013 was post-Jordan by like what, 5/6/7 years when James took over - for the better.
2013 was about 2 years after Vlad royally screwed over Yan.
2013 was either the year of or still pre-Trina?
2013 I still believed I could help bring something to the E30 world, but it didn't pan out.
It's not so much r3v, it's the E30 and car enthusiast world itself and the internet itself has changed. Forums aren't as active with other social media that makes people more lazy, and people are more lazy in general. I'm taking another break from E30s as soon as I can to focus on other things, but as always, I'll be back. r3v is still a forum that connects good people though, so it's worth coming back to even if you don't own an E30.Comment

Yes, it was definitely a hostile environment back then.I bought my first e30 in 05 and I remember being afraid to register on r3v due to what I perceived to be intense flaming (back when Jordan et al were on the forums I believe). R3v is now softer than towels washed with Snuggle.
