My old friends dad is selling his E30...

It's been stored for 15 years so I'd imagine all the rubber bits will need replacing. He took it out of the garage and everything seemed fine, I'm just hoping it will make it back the 40 minute drive. I've been looking for one forever and considering this is 1 of maybe 5 on the island, I figured it's worth jumping on.

Being said, is there anything I should know about the 325e? I will more than likely be doing a swap in the future anyways, but right now I'd like to just clean it up.

I've also been told the interior is the blue houndstooth and it's fairly rare, and an mtech 1 wheel.

Depends on if he started it occasionally in that last 15 years or not. The tires will be a risk to drive on at the very least.

I would not start that (let alone drive it 40min) without doing a timing belt at the very least.

Like others have mentioned do the timing belt. At the very least Id do the belt, brakes and new tires. Before I drove it.

Strange, I sold my 86 325es with the exact same front spoiler setup as this car, back in 02ish to a guy in Lethbridge AB. Aside from the letters and numbers on the back, it was EXACTLY the same car....same houndstooth sport seats too.

I regretted selling that car since I really liked it. Boy that was long ago
If it's got tits or tires, it's gonna cost ya!

In my excitement I completely forgot about the belt...
The brakes are apparently fine but obviously I'll have a look all beforehand. If I had access to a trailer this would be great.

naw, this is on the other side of Canada, and mine had a bit of hidden rust.

I wouldn't want it back. too many "projects" on the go anyway

                      Rent one?

From what you're saying, and your location, I think this is your best shot at an E30, if it's as clean and rust free as it looks. I'd jump on it if I were you, and then figure out how to get it home.

That seems to be the way it is. I'll check the belt, if it's dry rotted I'll just haggle a bit off of him and do my best to get a trailer to bring it home. Hopefully this works out tomorrow.

2k is nothing. Don't be a dick. Just get a trailer and tow it home.

If this car has been regularly started and moved around a bit, you'll be a bit better off than if it has been truly stored the entire time.

I can't stress enough - DON"T drive it! In fact, I wouldn't even start it again.

How old is the fuel? If unknown, assume it has to be drained and fresh fuel put in. And a new fuel filter fitted immediately.

The fuel hoses may be old and brittle. With pressure applied after being dormant for 15 years, pop goes the line.

The brake fluid will certainly in need of immediate change, and the calipers may be sticking from moisture in the system.

Ditto for the coolant. It's old and won't have optimum characteristics.

The engine oil seals may have hardened and taken a set over time. Oil leaks are common after years of inactivity.

The tires may seem fine but at 15+ years will have hardened and will not have any grip whatsoever on a wet road. I'd bet there's cracking in the bottom of the treads as well which could be a blowout risk.

Last but not least, that timing belt is a ticking time bomb. Its not a matter of IF it will break, just how soon it will.

How do I know these things? I've been bitten by EVERY ONE of them.

She's a pretty car and has great potential. Don't screw it up and try to drive it home.
