I wouldn't trust the refund because it's not directly related to the $1400 you originally sent him. You have a situation where you sent him money. Then several days later he sent you money, which happened to be the same amount. It's conceivable that he could later dispute the issue with either his bank or paypal.

Either way, you probably should have contacted the police as soon as you had his info. Late is better than never, and you may end up needing the report as proof of this situation. Besides, if it was just a misunderstanding, he won't be charged and will probably be motivated to be more transparent in the future. If he did try to scam you, he should have to deal with the full legal repercussions. (Try getting a decent job/apartment/anything as a felon)

That's not exactly a huge safety net considering that credit card chargeback is a viable solution, but should he try that, I'll just do what I should have done from the beginning.
Just do it now bro. Don't give him the impression he can just give the money back and everything will be okay

    Kinda like a ponzi scheme.
I think it was mentioned but email those accounts back asking what the funds are for.

Also, for reference, anything in excess of $1000 is a felony, at least in north VA.

That would solve my earlier question, about why the hell would he pay $40 some odd dollars in PP fees to refund scam money?

This whole thread is pretty great. Props to you for going after the guy, I didn't think I'd ever get anywhere with the guy who burned me so I let it go.

Don't think for one second that this is all over once you get your "refund"

He is using other peoples accounts (presumably other victims) to refund you your money.

The police, and paypal need to be notified asap.

It's like watching Law & Order... but with E30 people! :D

Hope everyone gets their money back and this guy learns his lesson with the stiff hand of the law, it's the only way he wont take advantage of others.

On a side note, it's time for some pizza's as a reminder.
