Anyone know of a file recovery utility for free?

Well the hard drive crashed. winXP would not reinstall...etc.... Now after a new hard drive and running scan disc etc. on the old one I can see the folders but only part of the information is accessable. I used virtual lab to check the drive and the files are actually there, but they wan't BIG$$$$ to use it to save files.
Anyone know a share ware or free utility?

try searching for a program called "findntfs" or something along that line. I used it to recover a drive when the NTFS partition was deleted on accident.

        that's the website.

not sure if it will help you or not, but you may be able to recover some of the files. it's command line based but it's the only free utility I could find that worked well.
