I try to order all my nuts and bolts with my parts from BMA - wish I would have ordered more of them with my current project, because there are some that I can't find locally (odd sized high grade metric bolts for one). locally we have a place called hardware sales. they pretty much have everything I need, but sometimes the bolts are lower grade or they don't have the anti corrosion coating of factory BMW bolts.

I would say 90+% of my part orders are for BMW OEM parts.

Bolts & stuff.
If you are in a good size city look in the yellow pages for fasteners or bolts. In Austin there are four or five. They sell by spec so quality, material, hardness and configuration are all noted. They sell by the box or individually. They also carry most Mil-Spec and aircraft grade. They are the only source besides the dealer for OEM quality. Autozone and hardware stores sell mostly junk. Realoem gives size info.

I go to a local place, its used to be called "Hardware Hank" before it was bought out by Ace, but its still the same people. They are really good if you just need a couple things, usually I go in and only need one or two nuts and bolts. I just go in and give the guy the old ones and tell him to find me new ones like it, and they always do :)
EDIT:
I like them because they have weird stuff metric style. They were the only place in town I could find graded allen bolts used to hook the diff up to the rear axles.Rollin' with a Geistkuchen

I save every nut/bolt i take out of my cars for future use if i have to. Otherwise, i steel them from the shop:-). or i go to some good local hardware stores or the aircraft/racing shop. for stupid stuff like exhaust hangers andwhatnot i go to homedepot/similar.
