This is completely off topic, but I literally just saw your signature picture change between your first post and your reply to my post

I'm honestly impressed; Signiture does not lie. Not bad

    EDIT:
    There it goes again

An effective way to go about these situations is to calmly get out of the car at a stoplight, approach the vehicle causing you anguish, remove their passenger side mirror with force, and take it home with you. I have about 8 of them at my home in Roseville.

I took my first one in High School. It gets the message across very quickly and you don't have to harm the driver in any way.

I only ever gave one mirror back to some punk kid after he saw me about 4 days after the incident and apologized.

People are absolutely less courteous to BMW drivers. I saw this when I owned both a BMW and a Subaru, and see it when i'm driving my girlfriend's Corolla. I get treated different when i'm in something with a roundel on the hood. My driving habits don't change, only the car i'm in.

When i'm in my E46 330ci, I get tailgated *horribly* in traffic. When commuting, people intentionally close gaps when I turn my signal on to merge. When a lane is closing, they close the gap or muscle their way in and throw the 'every other car' rule out the window.

When i'm in the left lane and slowly come up on slower traffic, they won't move out of the way to let me by. When I park the car, people constantly park extra close. When I go out of my way to park away from other cars, I very often come out to find a car right next to me, and 30 open spaces around us (I NEVER double park, so it's not me taking up multiple spaces).

When I go to job sites for work, guys driving $40K trucks make comments, "It must be nice, can I get a job where you work?". "Wow, I wish I was making enough to drive around in a BMW", etc.

And all this over a 12 year old car that's worth as much as your average used Civic. When i'm driving my girlfriend's Corolla, life is so much more pleasant. People aren't dicks to me for no reason, and I don't get all sorts of comments (from people who make more money than me and drive more expensive vehicles) about my "expensive" car.

Sometimes I want to get something Japanese to daily drive, simply to avoid this stuff. I thought about removing the roundels from my car, but I don't think it would negate recognition.

Well... that was... interesting? People suck at driving (and existing ftm). Doesn't matter what vehicle you are in. I've rarely noticed any actual BMW targeted driving through the years. In fact, now that I think about it, I got more douche baggery directed at me when I was driving my GT Mustang.

People just suck at driving... end of story. As mentioned, courteous behavior is no longer taught, and the self absorbed social media centric public is raising kids to care more about what their Twitter followers think about them rather than the 5 people behind them in the express checkout line when they have a full basket. That's just an example, I could go on and on...

Over 20 paragraphs to say you got a cheap 540 and then got worked over by a crazy old lady in a minivan.

              Cool.

Are you insinuating that driving a peasant vehicle means a "more pleasant" life?

I don't care he agreed with me first: someone made a snide comment at his expense on the internet afterward so he must be false and now must be terminated

I still think this is much ado about nothing. People suck... in your situation I just would not have tried to pass the van. But then again, I have a kid and wife so I don't typically think about road rage situations in the same manner I used to.

It was a 3 lane street and we were the in the middle lane, the right lane was packed; the left lane was completely open

I was not tailgating, flashing high beams, or exhibiting any other forms of road rage; I backed waaaay off, like ain't-nobody-got-time-fo-dat off. All I did was simply attempt to signal into the next lane, make a normal calm lane change, gave it a little gas, and she cut me off.

Obviously, best course of action would have just been to back the heck out and just not try to pass, but hindsight is 20/20

Yeah...people just generally suck at driving. Cali..NY...NJ...MA... Doesn't matter. The problem is that driving is viewed as a RIGHT not a PRIVELIGE. We take a simple written test at 16 (fun fact in South Dakota you can get a provisional license at 14!) and a stupid driving test before we're 17. And with ZERO real instruction, are let loose with a 2-ton hunk of steel. Pretty ludicrous when you think about it. My idea- create a PRIVATE company with government contracts to DMVs- mandatory defensive driving instruction like BMW/TireRack program. In order to keep a license, you have to PAY $300 every 5 years to re-qualify. The fee funds the program, accidents go down, insurance premiums go down and the dyckheadds get suspensions and fines. We all win!

As for BMW specific rage- I've only been in the game for 8 years...but I DEFINITELY notice more aggression when I am driving my E30 or E46 330i.

But I can easily get rid of that...just go back to driving my college whip- a 1967 Ford Falcon wagon with at least 3 paint colors! NO ONE F'd with me when I drove THAT car it just screamed "This idiot doesn't give a Shyt about anything!"
