    Should I trade my E30?

So I have an 88 325 vert that I love but I really want to get an E39. I listed the car on CL and a guy with a 96 328i 5 speed wants to trade. I mainly want to get a 4 door BMW and this kind of fits the bill. Here is my ad

I figure I could also get the e36 and do a fix and flip depending on what issue it has. Guy says it runs and drives fine, just replaced the valve cover gasket. It gets the shakes above 70 but with a jerk of the steering wheel is fine. I imagine probably a shot rack and pinion? Past the cooling issues and VANOS I don't think there is a lot the the E36's have a problem with. Any input?

Any pics/link of the trade car?Does he want cash on top? Id suggest research wha tyou are buying repair cost wise, and price out what you think it needs, to get a better idea of resale

No unfortunately I don't have a good way to upload them right now. Basic e36 sedan, it's black with a cream interior. Only cosmetic damage, beyond normal wear and tear, was the drive door had 2 decent dings on it. No he just wants a straight across trade

I don't know much about E36 cars, but be cautious and make sure it gets a good inspection before you do anything.

E30s are worth more than E36s all things being equal. Unless you're trading an E30 for an E36 m3 I wouldn't do it. That said, you're missing your rear window. But, unless that 328i is in exceptional condition it's definitely not worth it. A friend bought a decent condition E36 328i 4 door for $2k. I got my E36 325i 2 door for $60 and an xbox. E36s are really nice cars, I used to hate them. Now, I really admire them. They're great DDs. Comfortable, powerful, quiet. They're also worth very little.

Yeah it's a vert and the back window got wrecked in a hailstorm. I just don't have the want right now to replace the top. Yeah I would rather take the cash and get a E39, but I do like some of the E36's

He reached out to you, so he obviously thinks he'd be getting the better end of the deal in a trade. Find out why.
